Hello, I’m HYUNG-GUHN “HUGO” YI

I’m a German-Korean filmmaker born in Saarbrücken, Germany in 1996. In my film studies (Motion Picture, University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, B.A. 2019), I have acquired the craft of storytelling through filmmaking: As a writer & director, but also in the production department as a producer and set coordinator.

No matter the department: Telling emotionally complex stories from minority communities or dealing with topics which haven’t been highlighted enough in German mainstream media is my main focus.

Whether it’s about a Korean immigrant making her first steps in Germany or a butcher being abducted by a human-eating alien: I believe that there are many interesting and unique angles to tell those stories and I want to be part of bringing them to the big screen.
